When it comes to the human body’s organs, the bladder tends to be overlooked.

Its job is to store liquid waste. It’s not as glamorous as the heart, lungs or skin. It’s not a powerhouse like the liver.

When our urinary health hits a speed bump, however, we take notice.

While some bladder conditions are more likely as we age, they aren’t something we just have to put up with as we get older.

Click here for my interview with Kelly Jirschele, DO, board-certified urogynecologist, about the most common bladder problems and how to prevent and treat them.

The human microbiome includes trillions of microorganisms—viruses and bacteria—that live in and on us.

They’re involved in digestion and vitamin synthesis. They help tell our bodies what to fight and what not to fight.

We know our mind can affect how our gut feels. (Ever get a “knot” in your stomach when you’re nervous?). You’d be surprised by how closely the mind and gut work together. So, what’s the connection?

Click here for my interview with board-certified gastroenterologist Shivani Kiriluk, D.O. where we discuss the gut-brain connection in Episode 16!

Happy 4th of July from my family to yours! I echo the following words of wisdom from my colleagues over at the American College of Lifestyle Medicine (ACLM): Celebrate the birth of our nation while practicing a few key lifestyle medicine pillars!

1. Connect with family and friends.

2. Share a healthy, happy, plant-based meal.

3. Celebrate responsibly.

4. Relax and get 8-hours of sleep.

5. Go outside for a walk, run, hike or swim!

Let these daily, lifestyle choices be the default ones. I wish you a positive, stress-free, and healthy July 4th weekend!
